In Response To: Re: True... (Louis Wu) I don't mean to pry into someones argument, and I also realize this argument has played out. But I can relate to everything that has been said. Playing guitar and video games can be analyzed similarly. There are three types of people. The people who have the natural skill and ability to play, the people who have the ability to learn to play, and the people who just can't play . Person 1: The person who naturally has the skill and ability. One of my friends I iplay guitar with is this guy. He is naturally good. He is an excellent guitar play technically and physically. In one years time he went from never touching a guitar to fluently playing Zeppelin, Clapton, and anything else he heard and decided to learn in 10 minutes. In order to be this guy, you have to naturally have rhythm and coordination. Person 2: The person who can learn to play. I fall into this category. I also play guitar, but I have to listen to a song a few times, and sometime have someone show me how to do it, and eventually I get it. The more I practice the better I get. It is possible to acquire the same skill level as person one, you just have to work harder to get there. Rhythm is already there, but it can be fine-tuned Person 3: The person who just can't play. This person, can practice and practice, and be pretty good. However, they just simply lack the natural ability to play guitar as well as person 1 or 2. Another friend has tried to learn guitar for years, he practice himself, has myself and friends show him things, but he just can't do it. He lacks rhythm, and coordination. HE CANT PLAY, end of story. Person 1 would benefit from lessons, but eventually get to the point where he reach a plateau. Person 2 would benefit the most, since the style they have is most appropriate for haveing someone help and show them. Person 3 would be wasting money. I think video games pretty well break down the same way. Some people are just better than others. These professional gamers are PROFESSIONAL. just like professional athletes, they have a natural ability teamed up with knowledgeable training. Professional. They are Person number 1. While their training and knowledge can't make you worse, and might not always make you better. So if someone wants to pay money to get better, and someone is willing to provide the service, then it makes total sense.
