In Response To: Heavy Criticism of Halo 2 *LOOOOONG* (pile o' nades)

: Dropships

: I believe it was said in a Bungie Weekly Update that we would be able to
: destroy both Covenant and Human Dropships. Unfortunately, this turned out
: not to be the case. Why not be able to kill a Phantom with the tank with
: enough shells? Would the covenant spawn later anyway? Could this not be
: fixed? Why not?

I would be kinda pissed off if I shot down a dropship and the troops on it magically teleported to the place they were supposed to be. It would be inconsistent, and there would be a lot of places where doing this or not doing this would derail scripting or make handling it a lot more complicated.

: Sword Flying? Come on Bungie, you are making this way too f*cking easy.
: Tricking is supposed to be fun, but easy does not mean fun. In
: Halo 1, tricking was started by the Halo community. In Halo 2 it seems
: like it was started by Bungie.

Bungie didn't just make tricking easy- they made it accessible. Watching videos of other people's tricks is all well and good, but actually DOING them is now within reach of a lot more players. I personally have sword flown and gone exploring on levels- I'd never even consider doing hog launches or level climbing in Halo 1, because I don't have 3 hours to spend accomplishing something I'd already seen a video of.

The game obviously still has cracks in its veneer, and there should be more interesting tricks done in the future. As you said, the really cool Halo 1 stuff took months and months to be discovered, and I'm confident this will happen again.

: Glitches

: Infinite Plasma Sword Glitch? So starting a level with a depleted Plasma
: Sword makes it have infinite energy? BTW, I tried this with the Plasma
: Rifle and it does not work. Theoretically, it should though, because they
: both run on a battery which runs out. Inconsistent.

It's not a matter of story consistency; it's simply a bug. There's no logic behind it because it was unintentional.

: I hate them. They are Okay for the top of the level, but not letting me even
: close to the tunnel is just evil. There is also one on the water
: preventing you from going underwater.

So getting Banshees into places Bungie doesn't want them is harder. I can't wait to see the barriers defeated in trick videos in a few months ;)

: I would have had 3/4 snipers on top of the walls looking at all 5 entrances.
: One would be by the Catch skull.

This is the main point I agree with- the Jackal snipers are simply no fun. The only possible defense against them, on Legendary and even Heroic, is to focus all your attention on them, move very slowly, and pack a long-distance weapon at all times. Whack-a-mole is no fun when you're the mole.

: Instead of a 10, a 11.7, or OXM's biased, hype-induced 9.7, which was lowered
: from a 10 only after playing the game, I give Halo 2 a 7.3.

: Halo 2 sucks.

: Look at that statement. No "!!!!11!!oneone!11!"s, and not in ALL
: CAPS.

: *dons flame retardant suit*

The rebuttal that instantly comes to mind here is that you're ignoring multiplayer, which is a whole other kettle of fish and IMO more than justifies the very high scores the game is getting. It is quite literally the other half of the game, and should have all the longevity and persistent fun-factor that Halo 1's trickable single-player and system-link multiplayer had. If you haven't tried it, you really should try to find a few local people who can take you on XBL as a guest, or even jump on XBC or another free network.

And thanks for refraining from !!!!11!!oneone!11 :P
