Ok here I go. The story will be arranged around a series of "key events" these events will not be scripted. In essence these "key events" will be the basis for the missions. There will be no actual missions just a general task which is "suggested" by some other authority, say Cortana. Of course you have the option to ignore the advice, which might be to your benefit at times. In this way you could assign "missions" to your various underlings and help carry out some of the more diffucult ones yourself. Certain actions trigger key events. First contact with the covenant on halo would be a good example. Priorities would shift from finding personal to making sure that those you have found remain alive. Several missions could be happening at once. However your leadership is very important so it would be best ot schedule tough missions at times which you can help. However easy missions could be left to your troops. Battles are fought in real time and you could drop in during the middle of a battle to help your troops. That way you could fight the begining of one battle and leave the cleanup to oyur troops. Then you could join a second battle to reinforce your troops. Then leave them to finsh a third battle. Then come back to the first battle and suprvise a final assault. However this would be diffucult considering distances, but if it was your thing then you could do it. The story would progress on several tracks. The first, is the present, where you battle the covenant, events such as heroic victories, bitter defeats, exploration and the passing of time cause the story to move forward. The second is the near past, brought back through memories and conversation, this explains the back story, certain events in the present will trigger your memories and those of your troops. The third is the far past, revealed by the writings and technology left behind by the ringbuilders, this story will progress with your research. In this way your actions are tied to the story, but he story will progress without you. To learn as much of the story as you can you research as much as possible and spend time with your troops. Which also raises moral and helps your military machine. The first storyline runs in a semilinear manner, your actions trigger a series of events that move the story forward. The "events" are tied in logical order, but most can be skipped, however you miss the resulting story. The second storyline is completely and utterly mixed up. Little pieces are tossed out toyou here and there to allow you weave a them into a full picture. The events which trigger it are not neccesarily connected to story one but can be. Story three relies entirely on research. It is the story that your scienitsts and linguists paint for you of the far past. However depending on their skill they can be wrong. So if you set a mechanic to deciphering ancient drama the results might not be, up to par. Desio |
