Wow, creative... | |

In Response To: Play Halo NOW! (Xian) So far, I've been getting Creative Writing samples... which are good (very nice!) but not what I had in mind. I'm asking for game mechanics (or how the game plays) because that part is largely speculative, but all of us have- to some extent- imagined what it would be like to play (unless *everyone* has been thinking of this game in really general terms, never dealing with the details) and curious to see which are plausible and/or popluar amongst the posters here. Here's my take (on Single Player, of course): Well, based on the size of Halo and assuming there is some mission structure... I'm going to assume the humans have some sort of mobile "base". Because of the size and the scope of Halo, a mobile base would enable you to visit various memorable locals (w/o long, tedious travel times) and-.... well, let's just run through a mission (gamewise) and I'll save defense of my ideas for some other time. - Returning from your last mission you check a mission/choice interface (or not)... basically you get a mission debriefing and suggestions/options as to where to proceed. Choose a mission. - As you go to the next location (takes place in compressed time), you get plot advancement, healed, weapon restocking, vehicle repairs, and decide on your payload for the next mission. - You arrive as soon as you're finished with reading terminal text/healing/etc. You get a very detailed mission briefing/objective but you have no real say in what goes on. Accept the mission. - Deploy/Teleport onto the field with your mission objectives and waypoints (with the ability to make limited- Mechwarrior-like command options... revolving mostly along the waypoints though). Execute your mission with the help of AI allies that are largely autonomous (probably much to the frustration of the player at times). If Bungie's clever, perhaps they'll have a "Cortana Jack" option? The ability to "possess" one of your subordinate's powerarmor for a limited period? Anyways you complete your mission... - Return to base manually or via teleport... Teleport is limited by 2 factors... Range and The Covenant (either they can detect it or prevent it, but the idea is you must be X distance away from them- which forces you to run or kill 'em all! ^_^). - Uh... Rinse, Wash, Repeat? I'd go into more detail but I'm tired! ^_^
