(spellbound) : I believe Joe Haldeman (and maybe others) have called this phenomenon 'future : shock'. : Not only caused by FTL travel overtaking sublight travel, but also by : sublight travel taking a subjectively long time measured at the : destination. A beefy ship could leave for an occupied planet and by the : time it arrived (a short time measured by shiptime) technology on that : planet could be far ahead of what it had been when they left. : Read 'The Forever War' (and compare it to 'Starship Troopers', by Heinlein). : Some rivalry there I think :) Hey thanks.
