	In Response To: Re: An addendum, and an apology--- (Hamish Sinclair) : Imagine his surprise to arrive at Tau Ceti only to find that mankind had : got their early though the development of FTL drives. Anyone know what : this concept is called in sci-fi? It does have a name. I believe Joe Haldeman (and maybe others) have called this phenomenon 'future shock'. Not only caused by FTL travel overtaking sublight travel, but also by sublight travel taking a subjectively long time measured at the destination. A beefy ship could leave for an occupied planet and by the time it arrived (a short time measured by shiptime) technology on that planet could be far ahead of what it had been when they left. Read 'The Forever War' (and compare it to 'Starship Troopers', by Heinlein). Some rivalry there I think :)
