![]() | In Response To: Re: role play (Johannes Gunnar) Hello again, In response: 1. Well, the GURPS Basic Set (the basic book for all GURPS games) includes rules for "improvised shields," which would probably include a large, bulky weapon such as the assault rifle or SPNKR. This would add 1 PD (passive defense) to any attempt to block, parry, or dodge an attack. 2. Well, the Marathon game doesn't include any armor rules. In reality, a juggernaut would be unharmed by =any= Marathon weapon except the SPNKR and possibly the grenade launcher and fusion pistol. In GURPS, the rules for DR (damage resistance) allow armor plating to subtract a certain amount of damage from any attack, and in the case of something as large as a juggernaut, this would essentially make it bullet proof. Plus, the only real reason that a juggernaut doesn't just massacre a fist-wielding character in Marathon is because the Marathon AI script is exceedingly stupid, and doesn't just fly overhead and hose down the marine from up there. Basically, the GURPS Marathon game balance is radically different from the original Marathon game balance. For example, the assault rifle does over twice the amount of damage done by the pistol, because if it didn't (as in the computer game) you would be better off going EIGHT HUNDRED years into the past and picking up an M-16 than using cutting-edge space age weapons. Everything is a little different in GURPS Marathon, and one result of that will be that juggernauts will be VERY scary unless you have a rocket launcher, just like a tank is scary to an infrantryman today. Sincerely, -Max Etchemendy
