Of course he should. ok that he was on the colony, but he was presented as "a security officer on board the marathon" in the manual, so even if he actually lived on the planet, he should have known the maps.
I don't buy that he has not enough hard drive (or whatever storage he uses) because to keep those maps would take no more than 500 kbytes which are already a ridiculous amount of space today, imagine in 2794!
My idea is that in reality this is a bug in the story.
If I want to be romantic, I could say that he doesn't know the maps because this is the first time he is onboard the Marathon, provided that he is not one of the ten Mjolnir...
