It might also be that the Marine wanted to free the S'pht and stop the Pfhor. If Durandal would have been stopped on Mars the Pfhor would still be in charge and the S'pht would be slaves and the Pfhor would have an even better chance finding earth and destroy earth instead with the thrii Xeem or whatever it was named.
