In Response To: Re: Why DID the Jjaro leave? (Hydroconcil87)

: Or maybe they went back in time to save the human civilzation from the flood
: by building the halo. But in halo the builders of the ringworld
: disappeared without a trace too, is there a link, maybe they got so
: advanced that they decided to go help all the other civilizations , by
: saving them from other catastrophic events and then disappearing and
: moving on to the next civilization in the universe?

Although I agree that at one time the jjaro and the forerunners were equal, we shouldnt open this particular can of intellectual worms again -- i was kinda hoping to start a thread that would actually feature theories backed up by some of the story so that it didnt turn into the usual yes-it-is no-it-isnt snowball match :D

I still don't buy it that the jjaro started work on their own private utopia, fought chaos at some point during the process, then randomly decided it was time to leave. They seem (in the quotes in The Huard Stuff Rules et al) to leave in a state of remorse.

Why undergo such a major-scale endeavour as beginning to build yourself a living heaven, then up anchor half way through and piss off?

The jjaro were by no means flawless -- they forgot to turn Thoth on, after all -- I feel that the jajro made some major judgemental error (the death of Pthia seems to be the axis, although why the death of one being is such a cause for such total remorse is a mystery), vast enough that they couldn't reverse it even with the jjaro boxers, and felt compelled to leave, to make sure it didn't happen again.

Under those circumstances, the question is what happened?

Was Pthia a jjaro?

Was Yrro the only jjaro, and Pthia say, his wife for example? If the jjaro was/were walking god(s), the death of Mrs. God would be enough to make him/them leave.

We know the jjaro had client races, but we (intentionally) know nothing about the jjaro themselves -- we know only that they left military outposts and colony worlds, not whether these facilities were used by jjaro or jjaro-clients. We also know that all the jjaro client races have died out (the Nakh were the last) -- why? Did they need tending to? What component of jjaro technology caused the Drinniol slave revolt?

et cetera.

We have a sack full of half-answers and 2 sacks full of dangling questions. Surely we can figger something out between us?
