Overall, great job! Your work with the lighting really paid off, and the HUD and Lua inventory management system looks great. However, the map needs some improvement. At least, there should be thick brown lines on the walls. Changing the black background to proper beige is not as simple from what I can tell reading the MML documentation, but you could perhaps add a layer of large squares that underlie the entire map, and reveal them all with lua when you enter a level. Then the map would behave more like the original, with it being not so clear all the time what is space and what is not on the periphery of your explored area. I don't know if it's possible to display an image on the map with Lua, but if you can add the legend with its big north sword that would be awesome. Failing that, you could add some annotations. I am mildly, but only mildly, disappointed that the inventory dialogues are screenshots from System 7. I'd rather see a dark theme to compliment the full-screen environment, with freshly-rendered text edited to reflect the required actions. However, I totally understand your reasons for making that choice of direction.
