While expanding on the original game is a commendable pursuit, I'd like to offer a word of caution -- you must maintain proper balance in gameplay and difficulty. If romhacks have taught me one thing, it's that the original devs typically knew what they were doing. That's not to say you can't make it easier or harder, or go off in a new direction, just that game design is a complex and nuanced beast.
