Of course this all supposes that there is some more complex conspiracy going on. I always opt for the simpler one until proven wrong.
In the simpler one, "alien homeworld' is the Pfhor homeworld. Note that the term "homeworld" is never used in association with the the Vylae (not saying they don't have one). Durandal believed that Leela was there having been feed this line by Tycho. The question is whether Tycho knew that this was not the case. Was he duped by his captors during his stay on the Pfhor homeworld or did he know but didn't want Durandal to know of her loss. The latter is more probably. Never give your enemy information that makes you look weak or incompetent.
Of course the twist in the plot comes at the end in the Final Screen when we learn of Leela's true fate. It's a real kicker. Leela is no longer the damsel in distress. She's mad and she's bad, and kicking Vylae a$$. Three cheers for Leela. ;)
