: This is certainly an excellent theory. However, may I ask where the sources
: for your first proposal (that the S'pht had also assumed sentience to be
: an inherent faculty of their race) are? From what I saw in Terminal 2 of
: The Hard Stuff Rules... , it was never implied that the S'pht had made
: such an assumption.
From the second terminal on The Hard Stuff Rules:
This leads to debate. Perhaps our own
sentience is induced by the birthing
operation, and that at some time, we were
no more sentient than a F'lickta.
If such a fundamental assumption of our
kind is wrong, then perhaps the myths were
true, and we were actual servants of Yrro
and Pthia.
Perhaps they built us, or we were part of a
larger group who came to Lh'owon.
I'm interpreting the first paragraph to be a new conjecture that arose from the dissection of the Pfhor. For it to call into question some fundamental assumption implies that the S'pht believed its opposite: that their sentience isn't induced by the birthing operation and that at no time were they no more sentient than a F'lickta. How the assumption that cyber-organic synthesis is necessary for sentience implies this is unclear to me, but that's how I follow the logic.
: As for your second proposal, may I ask for a little more clarity as to what
: you're trying to imply here? In other words, are you saying that the Jjaro
: might actually be cyborgs, or are you suggesting that the Jjaro just
: couldn't be AIs, or what?
I'm not clear myself. I was trying to extrapolate from the idea of S'pht Royalty as failed Jjaro what the Jjaro might actually be like. Reading over the Facts and puzzling things about... entry on the Jjaro, most of these things have already been examined in more clarity, and I don't really have anything to add yet.
