The S'pht had concluded that sentience required cyber-organic symbiosis, but that examination of the Pfhor led to suspicion that their own sentience might be induced by the 'birthing operation' and that S'pht sentience had been built by Yrro. Heretofore they had (somewhat contradictorily) assumed that while their own sentience required machinations, it was also an inherent faculty in their race. This leads me to question whether the S'pht would consider Thoth to be sentient. I think that a species exposed to a purely machine sentience might consider that biological components weren't necessary and would be more likely to accept that their own existence was unnatural. If cyber-organic sentience were the only kind they know, the S'pht wouldn't see an AI like Thoth as a sentient entity. On the missing Confound Delivery terminal page, Chris Geisel mentions that the S'pht Royalty are failed Jrro, which implies that a successful Jrro would be a cyber-organic existence. The possibility of a S'pht becoming a Jrro supports the view that the Jrro aren't a race in biological terms but a group that had transcended traditional sentience. What would a successful Jrro have looked like? A Thoth-Durandal-type entity? Why did the S'pht royalty failed Jrro, if the Jrro built the S'pht? The Jrro took nonsentient biologicals, gave them sentience and made them servants, but did not elevate them to their own level. I think they would have if it were possible. S'pht myth has Yrro apologizing for having 'failed to preserve you.' Perhaps a true Jrro needs to be built upon a biological sentience.
