Level 44: "Deep Into The Grotto"
(Created by Andreas Nuyts to replace an earlier map of the same name by me.)
You teleport in outdoors under the strange sky of this alien place. Entering a nearby cave you find a terminal from the Watcher:
[L44-T1-Unfinished]
Navigating your way into the core via ventilation ducts, you eventually find the location of the wires you need to smash, but they are guarded by a forcefield. You must deactivate a number of circuits around the facility to get past this force field. Next to the wires is a terminal:
[L44-T0-Unfinished]
(This is, if you can't tell, supposed to be the most emotionally poignant moment in the story; where you are forced to choose between sparing the life of someone who has proven themselves dangerous and irrational but whom, if my writing has been successful at all, you should feel some measure of sympathy and pity toward, and in doing so possibly change millions of years of galactic history for the better, saving untold trillions of lives; or alternately, kill her, kill off trillions of people in the process, and let history unfold as you remember it. I'm really curious to see how many people sympathize with Hathor enough to willingly give her a chance, rather than just taking that route because they didn't realize they had the option to cancel out of that terminal.)
If you accept Hathor's proposal, you are teleported out to level 45: "Frog Blast The Vent Core". If you reject her offer, cancel that terminal, and smash the wires anyway, the terminal changes:
[L44-T0-Finished]
You must make your way back to the surface where you came from; but on your way, you find Pfhor forces have arrived and are being assaulted by the nightmare creatures you have been fighting throughout this place. As you reach the open surface, you teleport out to Level 48: "This Message Will Self Destruct".
