Seems you've stumbled upon a form of presentism, which is what I was getting at with my questions about whether or not the past (with your now-dead ancestor) "exists" in your theory; that is, whether other times are just like other places except that we perceive the axis of time differently from those of space. If you're happy to accept presentism (which it sounds like you're not, but apparently some number of people are), then my whole thing about hypertime being necessary for past-altering time-travel is moot, because there is no past to alter, and no dimension of space in which to travel.
You could still, perhaps, change things in the ever-changing present to be just like they were before (whatever "before" means in a presentist theory, which I don't quite grok myself), but with whatever subtle differences necessary for this re-enactment of history to play out different than the last time it happened. But that would require nearly the same level of god-like power (to somehow alter the entire present universe) as magically causing it to be the case that certain things in the past occurred (as we discussed earlier in regards to backward causation and how it doesn't really change the past), so time travel doesn't really seem any more possible in a presentist model than it does in an eternalist model.
Incidentally, "eternalist" is new term to me (just picked it up from the above-linked wiki article), and it seems somehow ironic that I of all people should be arguing the position which it names. :-)

	Message: : Seems you've stumbled upon a form of presentism , which is what I was : getting at with my questions about whether or not the past (with your : now-dead ancestor) "exists" in your theory; that is, whether : other times are just like other places except that we perceive the axis of : time differently from those of space. If you're happy to accept presentism : (which it sounds like you're not, but apparently some number of people : are), then my whole thing about hypertime being necessary for : past-altering time-travel is moot, because there is no past to alter, and : no dimension of space in which to travel. : You could still, perhaps, change things in the ever-changing present to be : just like they were before (whatever "before" means in a : presentist theory, which I don't quite grok myself), but with whatever : subtle differences necessary for this re-enactment of history to play out : different than the last time it happened. But that would require nearly : the same level of god-like power (to somehow alter the entire present : universe) as magically causing it to be the case that certain things in : the past occurred (as we discussed earlier in regards to backward : causation and how it doesn't really change the past), so time travel : doesn't really seem any more possible in a presentist model than it does : in an eternalist model. : Incidentally, "eternalist" is new term to me (just picked it up : from the above-linked wiki article), and it seems somehow ironic that I of : all people should be arguing the position which it names. :-)
