I do not think there is a conspiracy, no. I do not think the Marathon Universe has answers to all the questions. I think a lot of us are over-analyzing it. But I happen to like over-analyzing things, which is why I am still here.
I also happen to think there are some things that we have not discovered that we were intended to discover. At the very least, I am fairly confident that there are truths about the Marathon Universe that we do not know yet. Whether that be due to lack of details in the games, us just missing it all these years, or we took a few missteps and are on the wrong path. Whatever.
I do understand your point. And if I was here to try and answer all of the questions I would consider myself a fool. I am here to see what I can discover. I do not care if those things were Bungie-ordained or not. It would be handy to know what is Bungie-truth and what is just extra thought we pulled from the game, but I see that as icing on a very tasty cake.
I just like thinking about things and for some reason the Marathon Universe appeals to me. In addition, I happen to see the Marathon games as a case study for my own worlds which I am in the process of creating. I look at what I see as faults and try to avoid them. I look at what I see as successes and edge toward them. I enjoy myself. :)

And the point to this is... what? Halo is similar to Marathon, but so what?
Honestly, I think the reason Halo was not Marathon 3 was because the Marathon Universe was not defined well enough. I think they basically had to start over. I would bet that pretty much everything in the Halo Universe has a point.

Oh, neither am I. But I do not hold a cynical backlash against the Marathon story. Accusing Bungie of stringing us along just seems weird. They really have no need to do so. They may have trouble post-Halo, but I always thought of the Old-Bungie-fans as game independent. Bungie gains absolutely nothing from trying to keep us addicted to Marathon. They will never gain anything. There is nothing to gain. We are so small that we cannot even push a petition for action figures through.
But whatever. Like I said, I see your point. I also see Forrest's point. I think of myself as somewhere in the middle. I personally enjoy fitting things together that were never intended to fit. One of my favorite things to do is find plot holes in stories and then find a clever way to fill them in.
Marathon has the right mixture of provided fact to implicit events to keep me coming back for more.
The only reason I want any sort of official Bungie stamp on some of our quests is curiosity. I am curious as to exactly how much thought was put behind the story and how much further we took it.

	Message: : I do not think there is a conspiracy, no. I do not think the Marathon : Universe has answers to all the questions. I think a lot of us are : over-analyzing it. But I happen to like over-analyzing things, which is : why I am still here. : I also happen to think there are some things that we have not discovered that : we were intended to discover. I also see Forrest's point. I : think of myself as somewhere in the middle. I personally enjoy fitting : things together that were never intended to fit. One of my favorite things : to do is find plot holes in stories and then find a clever way to fill : them in. : Marathon has the right mixture of provided fact to implicit events to keep me : coming back for more. : The only reason I want any sort of official Bungie stamp on some of our : quests is curiosity. I am curious as to exactly how much thought was put : behind the story and how much further we took it.
