Given that the author of that plot has said that he intentionally made it complex and difficult to understand, that seems to imply that it is understandable; that is, there is something there to be understood. It's not just gibberish.
We may never "understand" the bits that really are just pretty allegory and metaphor (like the story of the knife, more aptly described as a broadsword), because those parts *aren't* meant to be understood in such a strict sense. They're like poetry. You "understand" poetry not by strictly following it's "plot", since poetry isn't necessarily a narrative; you understand poetry if the sorts of thoughts or ideas (emotions, etc) meant to be conveyed by it, are in fact conveyed, whether or not those mental states form a coherent plot or not.
But aside from the pretty metaphorical language in things like the dream levels, there is most definitely a real plot - that is, an ordered sequence of events - which happens in Infinity. It's difficult to follow, because it involves repeated time travel (which necessarily messes with our intuitive understanding of sequentiality), and more so because the storytelling mechanism (the game) doesn't always make it clear that time travel is happening at all, so even if you do easily understand time-travel stories you might not get that that's why this particular story seems so confusing at first. But once you understand that the story does involve time-travel, and how to tell when time-travel is happening in it, then you can pretty easily piece together the sequence of events in the game, and thus the plot becomes clear. It also helps a lot if you're intimately familiar with the plot of Marathon 2, because little references to those events help make clear just when in time you are.
Even '2001's ending isn't meaninglessly obscure. Read the book and it much more clearly explains the events at the end of the story. The movie just portrayed that in typical Kubric trip-o-vision which made it damn hard to grasp what the fsck was happening. But something *was* happening - it was just poorly conveyed through the medium used. The same could, perhaps, be said of Infinity.

	Message: : Given that the author of that plot has said that he intentionally made it : complex and difficult to understand, that seems to imply that it is : understandable; that is, there is something there to be understood. It's : not just gibberish. : We may never "understand" the bits that really are just pretty : allegory and metaphor (like the story of the knife, more aptly described : as a broadsword), because those parts aren't meant to be understood in : such a strict sense. They're like poetry. You "understand" : poetry not by strictly following it's "plot", since poetry isn't : necessarily a narrative; you understand poetry if the sorts of thoughts or : ideas (emotions, etc) meant to be conveyed by it, are in fact conveyed, : whether or not those mental states form a coherent plot or not. : But aside from the pretty metaphorical language in things like the dream : levels, there is most definitely a real plot - that is, an ordered : sequence of events - which happens in Infinity. It's difficult to follow, : because it involves repeated time travel (which necessarily messes with : our intuitive understanding of sequentiality), and more so because the : storytelling mechanism (the game) doesn't always make it clear that time : travel is happening at all, so even if you do easily understand : time-travel stories you might not get that that's why this particular : story seems so confusing at first. But once you understand that the story : does involve time-travel, and how to tell when time-travel is happening in : it, then you can pretty easily piece together the sequence of events in : the game, and thus the plot becomes clear. It also helps a lot if you're : intimately familiar with the plot of Marathon 2, because little references : to those events help make clear just when in time you are. : Even '2001's ending isn't meaninglessly obscure. Read the book and it much : more clearly explains the events at the end of the story. The movie just : portrayed that in typical Kubric trip-o-vision which made it damn hard to : grasp what the fsck was happening. But something was happening - it was : just poorly conveyed through the medium used. The same could, perhaps, be : said of Infinity.
