In Response To: Re: Marathon is so, SO misunderstood (Malakite) Okay, first off, I want people to know that I never had anything against UT, Halo or Deus Ex. I'm sorry if I got you all confused. I do not really like UT, but I didn't mean to put it the way you guys thought. Okay, here goes. : Personally, i am not a big UT fan. i loved the original unreal though. it
Yeah, in fact, I loved Unreal. It was a cool game. I just thought it would've been great if Epic software hadn't screwed it all up. There are still a bunch of answers and mysteries and strengths to add that Epic software seems to have forgotten: Now they're just with UT. : as for halo, it seems like that is the logical successor to the marathon
I don't exactly consider Halo to surpass marathon. I do think that Halo had a better engine and graphics, but in the end, no game, not even other games by bungie in my opinion have added up to the power of Marathon. : and quake, well.... yeah, quake is kinda crappy. I disagree. I don't exactly know why people hated Quake so much. Sure, Quake isn't the best game in the world, I pretty much just sometime like simple shoot-them-and-find-your-way-out games, and Quake is one of them, which it does a good job of doing. The lightning gun sort of screwed all the other weapons, but other than that I found it was fun. You'd have to admit, it still has some pretty good graphics today. Correct me if I'm wrong, was Quake the first game to put in polygon graphics? I don't know. Then there's the simple, yet for me, addictive, gameplay. It sure as hell doesn't add up to Marathon, though. : don't get me wrong: marathon is and always will be my favorite game of all
True. I love many other games. Basically I love all my games equally, except for Marathon, of course, which rises up above all other games. : as for the reasons that the marathon community is small, i offer this: it was
Actually, I find the AI slightly better and the creatures more dangerous than the ones from DOOM. Still you are right, Doom beats marathon's ass in simple action and finding your way out of the levels. : which is ok. mindless hyperviolence has its uses. but there will always be
Yep. ;) |
