Marathon is so, SO misunderstood

I can't believe it. I heard that DOOM beat it in a comparison. and look at this link below:

Read the top paragraph's first sentence, as if Quake beats Marathon a shitload. And then there's this link

Saying that Marathon is like Doom or Dark Forces or Duke Nukem.
Then there's much more I've heard and seen. Marathon is probably one of the most underrated and most misunderstood games that ever existed. People think it's a simple game like Quake. This isn't true.
How the hell did these people get mixed up? Aside from graphics, was that all people cared about in these games? Just that they had the most aggressive action? Is that what is behind this goo-goo die-hard obsession with the overrated crunk of shit known as Unreal Tournament? And the obsession with Halo? And Deus Ex? Strange that I have never noticed this before. People seem to not get the entire point of Marathon. It was not just to present fps action, but also to challenge, to involve, to bring emotion and intrigue to the player, as well as an interesting plot. And yet this is what people saw of it. Maybe that's why most misunderstand it.
I just don't get it. Why?
