Unfortunately, I never did learn of the power of the fusion mace, so I finished this level the old fashioned way - brute force. I think I fared a bit better than you did on Liver - I think I made heavy use of the primary trigger on the conche which made it pretty easy to take down everything before they got near me. For Squeegy, as I recall, I made heavy use of the primary trigger on the omega cannon. Although slow, it basically takes everything out all around the player and it does not require a hold and release strategy - it continues to fire as long as you hold the secondary trigger down. Of course, I did take damage, but I think I was able to kill most of the metalloids before they emerged or I wouldn't have been able to finish.
