: Is teleportation in marathon covered anywhere? Myself I can't recall to have
: found any info about it at least. I suppose you copy atoms and recreate
: them instantly, however there's a problem with that theory when it comes
: to lifeforms. Our brain will be destroyed and recreated, will our mind
: then disappear? I mean, think of it yourself, if you're destroyed you're
: dead. THough the new you will probably act and think as you...but is it
: really you?
I know where this is coming from, as Blayne and I have been discussing a phenomina that will be truly unique to WMaiD, but that doesn't exactly fit neatly within the Maraverse. Transporter accidents can certainly have interesting consequences . . .
There's a very nice chapter specifically dealing with the potential physics of transporters in a book called the Physics of Star Trek - can't recall the author, but I'm sure a search would turn it up. Basically, there is nothing in existing theories that would allow for teleportation. The concept of deconstructing your molecules, turning them into energy (and we're talking a lot of energy) and then reconstructing them defies logic. Cloning you might be possible, but then what would you do with the original body. I guess we'll just have to leave it to the discovery of subspace mechanics.
BTW, the invention of the transporter in Star Trek by Gene Roddenbury came about for one reason - because he couldn't figure out how to land such a huge ship.
