: I managed to find the correct sequence in the terminal, but couldn't get the
: central building's door open. Either there was a specific bug between this
: level and the OS X version of Aleph One, or else I simply hit the crucial,
: concealed switch once too often with the Pfhor staff when fighting the
: drones and Mystic in the final room. Unfortunately, I had saved over my
: old game before realising what might have happened, so I now have to
: replay a whole series of levels to catch up with everyone else...
Don't you hate it when that happens? This is why it's always good to keep a saved game at the start of every level, but I'm no better than anyone else in that regard.
Keith, I don't usually condone cheating, but I think you have a very good case for doing so just to get back on track. Do you know about AO's cheat codes? If not, simply place the following script inside your scripts folder, with angle brackets around each line (not sure how to show this in html):
marathon
cheats on="true"/
/marathon
Now vid-start Schmackle and immediately save your game (after leaving the lava) by holding down the control key and typing "yourmom". It may take a few tries, but eventually you'll have a saved game. Now use a saved game editor, such as the Infinity Game Wimp available at the Archives to restore all your weapons and ammo to the level they were at at the end of Septic Exodus. If you want to remain honest, you can then remove the cheats script. You'll then be able to play Schmackle as if nothing happened.
