: Simply because Halo is good (I played it, and it's damn good) but like it or
: not it still lacks the depth and the fascination of Marathon. The Marathon
: universe was cooler. UESC was better than UNSC, the Pfhor were definitely
: better foes than the Covenant or the Flood, and the original marine
: mjolnir mk IV was by far cooler than the fat master chief. At the end of
: the game you had the feeling of having actually met Leela or Durandal, on
: the other hand, as some other kid said, in Halo Cortana is just a voice
: and an hologram giving you some directions during the game.
: Remember Halo could not exist without Marathon.
: Hell, everybody is doing sequels or redos! Think about Wolfenstein, or Doom,
: or Half Life.
: Why not Marathon?
: Finally, Marathon was a Mac-only game. Doing a redo for the xbox, the Mac and
: the fu**ing PC would give the opportunity to play it also to the million
: of guys who missed it back in 1994.
Also at the end of Marathon I couldn't help feeling that it was still not over yet. The Pfhor were not truly defeated, only set back and left to regroup. The S'pht's home world was still left waste with no where for them to go. The traitor Tycho escaped. Durandal needs some payback for the crappy way he did things to you and the BOBs. Leela has been kidnapped and left in slavery. Your origins are not yet remembered, still half forgotten as in a dream.
And I whole heartedly agree that this amazing game would make a huge hit in the PC world. They were denied the Marathon experience. In a new engine they will all get their socks knocked off. I believe that much of the success of Halo has been the very cool elements they borrowed from Marathon. Bungie should bring it back home and rather than trying to put Halo into hand-me-down pants, make a full blown Directors Cut of Marathon in a modern engine such as Halo's. If Marathon made such a huge splash in this small Mac pond, think of the tsunami it would create in the PC ocean!
