That sounds like a great idea. I know that I definetly could've used a website like tihs. Instead when I began mapping (I was 7 at the time, a very important age for anyone) I had to figure things out for myself...and not only did that take a long time, but I also never really figured it out completely. I realize that if a website like the one your proposing had existed I would've saved a lot of time and, who knows, I could be a well known mapmaker.
