In Response To: Re: ATTENTION: I'd like every scenario maker to re (Steve Levinson) : Once again, if you have a story but don't have the skills or the time to turn
One of the things about a story in a scenario is that it shouldn't really translate comfortably to a piece of Fan Fiction... The forms of storytelling are distinct, and the reader's position in a story is separate to a player's in a game scenario. For the purposes of brevity, I'll state it like this: In a story, the main character is the hero. In a scenario, the main character is the sword. The mood and the world can translate nicely, sure, but a direct 1-to-1 won't do the story justice. Steve's right here, though, that a story without maps is not a scenario. I have found so far that it is safest to plot the story in broad strokes, get a feel for what sort of maps you can make work, and locate a point of marriage between the two disciplines. Ideally, each will feed off the other in a quality feedback loop, leading to stronger maps and a stronger story after say the third pass. The greatest discipline learned during scenario production ought to be patience. The dedication to get it right, no matter how long it takes. [b] |
