: I'm thinking with the open world design model you'll gradually unlock and
: gain access to different part of the ship while following the main story.
: And there will be scripted events which take place as you progress that
: may or may not be in areas of the ship you have access to. But once you do
: figure out how to access those areas you can reload a previous save from
: earlier in the game you can unlock that part of the ship. Perfect example:
: Durandal sends you to find Bernard Strauss, and like in the original game,
: you never do or discover he's dead. BUT if you reload a previous save when
: he was still alive and gain access to that area you can "save"
: him, or maybe get information from him. I'm imagining this is stuff the
: game never explicitly instructs you to do, It's something you have to do
: on your own volition and through piecing together clues from terminals.
: Also perhaps if you start breaking into parts of the ship you're not
: supposed to be there might be security countermeasures you have to deal
: with in addition to the Pfhor.
Hostile MADDs could be one such obstacle, lava pits, jump pads pack to the main path and crushers or parkour runs another. We could even have Marcus hack certain terminals to disable traps/cameras etc. to make passing through those restricted areas easier, like the hacking minigame in Duke Nukem Forever 2001 or cyberspace in System Shock. (moreso the remake than the original)
