In Response To: Re: Rubicon X problem (treellama)
: Well, I guess it all goes back to the "Is this for me?" or "Is
: this for the users" discussion. It's crystal clear which is more
: important to you.
Woah! You got it backwards. I was involved in the early discussions and there was even talk of putting everything inside the application itself. We ruled that out because it would preclude future updates of AO and it would also limit future flexibility. The whole reason for putting everything inside a data folder was to make things easier for the user. You have to understand a bit about the history of Rubicon - when the original scenario was released, a lot of people who played it had never played Marathon before and a lot of questions that followed were because of that. Chris and Scott were merely trying to make the new Rubicon X simpler to use for people who weren't as familiar with Marathon as the rest of us. And he probably gave more credit to the idea that people would follow directions. I guess we should have all anticipated that a lot of people never read directions - even when they're a simple one-liner right next to the download link. I think we also gave more credit to the idea that people wouldn't even think to look beyond the Rubicon X folder itself - why make things harder than they have to be? But some people obviously don't like change ;^)
