: I had three physical HDs, five now, at least until my old one finally goes
: kaput: - System (10G internal)
: - Applications (30G internal)
: - Documents (80G internal, now used as Scratch until it dies)
: - the new Documents (also 80G internal)
: - and now Backups (160G external FireWire).
: I don't trust my own stuff to the main drive (modern OS's have this annoying
: penchant of liking to reorganize things for you), but eventually my stuff
: got to be too much for my one other drive so I bought another, which is
: the one that just started dying, so I not only got one to replace it, but
: also a backups drive. Maybe I'll get lucky and the old 80G won't actually
: die, but I'm not trusting it to hold any data after doing that
: disappearing act last week... I've seen many HDs die after a trick like
: that.
Ah, not having the money for five drives (:P) I do the next best thing: regular backups to CD-R's. Much more cost effective.
