: This is why I always have two physical HDs...
I had three physical HDs, five now, at least until my old one finally goes kaput:
- System (10G internal)
- Applications (30G internal)
- Documents (80G internal, now used as Scratch until it dies)
- the new Documents (also 80G internal)
- and now Backups (160G external FireWire).
I don't trust my own stuff to the main drive (modern OS's have this annoying penchant of liking to reorganize things for you), but eventually my stuff got to be too much for my one other drive so I bought another, which is the one that just started dying, so I not only got one to replace it, but also a backups drive. Maybe I'll get lucky and the old 80G won't actually die, but I'm not trusting it to hold any data after doing that disappearing act last week... I've seen many HDs die after a trick like that.
