Unless you created some wacky fan-fictional scenario where Ne Cede Malis and the M2 Final Screen take place at the same time. For some reason I've attempted this:
- There was a backup copy of Durandal somewhere, which was activated when contact with M2 Durandal was lost.
- He already knew something about the W'rkncacnter, and the communications from Lh'owon were enough to confirm that one had been released there.
- Somehow, Earth and the Pfhor and Vylae homeworlds weren't destroyed, since they have to be there 10000 years later.
- Either the the W'rk was vastly less destructive than it was made out to be; or Durandal managed to find another weapon to use against it, capable of projecting a containment field spanning light-years. Also, he had to work so quickly that the W'rk didn't have a chance to catch up to Blake. Still, there must have been many inhabited star systems sacrificed; otherwise it's not much of a failure scenario.
- During all this, the Ne Cede Malis station enclosed itself in a vast Slo-Time envelope. Maybe it was an attempt to harm the W'rk, or maybe it somehow made it impossible for the W'rk to get in. The point is that in the time between the outbreak of the W'rk and the end of Ne Cede Malis, 10000 years passed in the outside world.
