In Response To: Re: Freecam without killing tricks (Sep7imus [subnova])

: I'm not sure about the last part. I think it would be pretty great to see
: some of the awesome campaign-players in third person.

: That being said, I think you and Narc are right that campaign needs to be
: different. The saved films (if there ARE saved films for campaign) need to
: be restricted to first person view or a few, close third person views.
: Otherwise, in addition to losing some of the incentive for tricking, you
: could just park the MC somewhere and then use the camera to look ahead on
: the level to see what's coming up, and where the enemies are hiding, and
: the like.

What's wrong with doing that in a film? I don't think for a second these features are enabled when playing. If you don't want to spoil a level for yourself by looking at somebody's campaign film, then don't watch it.

For exploration, I think the limited camera motion in campaign films is there just as a convenience, really-- to keep the accomplishment of "I reached a certain place or object" united with the experience of seeing said place or object. With a completely free cam, you could see almost anywhere. You could have found "Hi Ben" without actually going there. Of course, you wouldn't get any credit for that. You'd get credit for a screenshot showing the Chief standing next to "Hi Ben" to prove you actually got there. But somehow, splitting the accomplishment in two pieces like that I think would be a great detriment.
