In my opinion, Gravemind is no more a Dues Ex Machina than 343 Guilty Spark. GM does the exact same thing that 343 does: he provides a new direction for the plot to roll in. Is his appearance sudden? Yes. Is it to pull the character(s) out of a difficult situation? Yes. Does he turn things in a totally new direction. Yes. Is he necessary to further the plot? Hell yes. You cannot call GM a DEM if you do not call 343 an equally "contrived" DEM. |
