In Response To: Thoughts On The Halo Network (Bronzite)

: I started writing a post on the relative difficultly of flushing the Galaxy
: with the network of Halo installations placed around the Galaxy, but it
: lead to some interesting places, so I wrote it up a little more formally
: to faciliate communicating my ideas. I recommend the PDF below to anybody
: who is interested in the way the Halo Network might be arranged, and what
: the impact of Installation 04 being destroyed might have been.

Two things to consider in your theory I didn't see in your document:

1) You're making assumptions about the distances of the Halos relative to one another. Halo 1 to Halo 2 timeline occurs at just a few days more than a month later. (Sept 13-Oct 20). Throwing in a calculation of Covenant Slipspace velocity, your distance between Installation 04 to 05 at 44,500 light years would take the poor Covies about 15.2 years.

2) Guilty Spark already tells us at the end of Halo 2 that "...all life in 3 radii of the galactic center died..." indicating the actual destructive range of the Halo network. Even if 25,000 light years is the effective range of one, there may be an amplifying effect in place when they all go off to extend the lethal range. (The chart of the Covenant Mural roughly shows the 7 rings' distrubution...it's not evenly spaced.
