Re: Effective radius.........

In Response To: Effective radius......... (Schedonnardus)

: Technically, this installation's pulse has a maximum effective radius of
: twenty-five thousand light years. But, once the others follow suit, this
: galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or at least any life with sufficient
: biomass to sustain the flood.

: This seems to me to be saying that a single halo firing would only be
: effective within a 25,000 light year radius. I know this has been
: speculated before, so don't give me credit, but perhaps if all halos are
: fired simultaneously, then their pulses would richochet off each other,
: covering the gaps mentioned in the PDF. It has also been speculated before
: that the Halos might somehow amplify each others pulses.

: Just an addition to the discussion, could be right or wrong.

This is an excellent point. If I have enough free time later, and somebody doesn't beat me to it, I'll take a look at it. Of course, then we get into the exact method of destruction, which almost certainly isn't anything we've encountered yet (as of 2006). It comes back to the superluminal/subluminal pulse propogation speed question. If its subluminal or luminal, the pulse could just be a type of electromagnetic radiation, such as a massive gamma ray source, while if its superluminal, its a whole new kind of animal that we have no physics to describe.
