In Response To: Re: Why didn't the Covenant just shoot the MAC's?? (UrsusArctos) To me, it looks like Bungie said "screw logic, let's get some boarding action going on here!" In all honesty, the Cairo should have been destroyed by Regret's point defense systems when he passed it. You'd only need one good shot to effectively disable or destroy the thing. Bording parties also make absolutely no sense. Since when do the Covenant elect to send ground troops to secure/destroy an objective when their ships can do it? [The only times these risks are taken is to reach Forerunner technology. Or the Covenant ships are unavailable.] Hell, if each of the boarding craft that reached Cairo were packed with explosives, there would have been no need for boarding parties. Actually, come to think of it, Regret's battlegroup shouldn't have even made it through the Human blockade at all! 15 Covenant capital ships versus at least 3 Orbital MAC's, 50 or more frigates and 8 cruisers. Let's say each human ship only has 4 Archer missile pods each firing only 10 missiles. Regret's battlegroup would be dealing with a first salvo of 2320 missiles, along with who knows how many fighters, bombers, and nukes. Not to mention the 50 or so MAC rounds! There is absolutely no WAY Regret could have gotten through that. Personally, It feels to me like the beginning of Halo 2 was going to be the *actual* attack on Earth, but got switched around to accomodate this whole Covenant civil war, and Delta Halo business. |
