Actually, no. Covenant ships do not have a point defense system like UNSC ships have them. They have a close range pulse laser system that scythes through incoming missiles and fighter craft. The energy needs to gather up and then fire; they don't use turrets per se, but simply gather the energy along lateral lines and fire. And since this is the case, and since there's probably at leats a few UNSC ships gunning for it, the carrier's pulse lasers are either shooting down incoming missiles, plugging enemy ships, or recharging and cannot engage the Cairo. Its simply a matter of priority: are you going to expend your energy and recharge time on a station that's about to explode, or on enemies that are actively trying to destroy you? : Not to mention that if as you say, there are many human ships distracting
Covenant shield strength is proportional to ship size; and for a Prophet Hierach's ship, its probably got some damn good shields. It likely ate up a lot of damage and just bulled straight through.
