: more later The fact that the Forerunners are (probably) no longer extant implies that they were not in the Ark when the Halos were activated. Why? Who would willingly eliminate their entire species and give up their life when they have a ticket out of the mess? There seems to be two possibilities that explain this discrepancy. a) Humans are the Forerunners, and they used the Ark to escape the last catastrophic outbreak of the Flood.
It is possible that the Prophets are simply evolved forms of humans. However, I do not believe this theory for multiple reasons. First, Prophets hate humans, and have probably done so since the first activation of the Halos. Second, this would imply that Humans were scattered after the first firing of the Halos. How? After they emerged from the Ark they were incapable of space flight for many years. And third, the idea of multiple evolutionary paths has already been pursued in The Time Machine. It is more likely, that as mentioned before, Humans were chosen over the Prophets as Reclaimers. Somehow, the Prophets escaped the purge, probably through the gap in the coverage area of the Halos. Naturally they would be a bit pissed off. Chime in if I missed something here. |
