: the Ark. Humans were the only ones worthy enough in the eyes of the
: Forerunner to do so. The rest of the galaxy was left to rot, but somehow
: pockets of Prophets and other races survived, maybe blasted back
: effectively to the Stone Age, but survive they did, and remember they did.

Ok, now my opinion. I think they are both getting closer to the truth, but i think this is how it all went down:
Humans are, by popular belife, Forerunners. I think at one point the early Prophets worshiped the Forerunners as they do today.( er... rather 500years from now) anyway, when the flood became uncontrollable and they had to activate the rings, the Forerunners did not save the Prophets. The Prophets dispised them for this, suviving by unknown means, and set out for revenge. My support for humans being Forerunners is when 343 GS says "I am grateful to see that some of them survived to reproduce." The Forerunners escaped on the ark and landed on Earth where they started a new civilization. The Prophets hunted them down to seek revenge and what Mercy means by "and this time, none of you will survive." is his way of saying, "you should have all died last time, now suck on this."
I think it explains alot, but if u disagree and your not a total idiot, please tell me what you think.
