In Response To: Re: Trying to understand the Halos' blast pattern (prometheus) : I realize that Installation 04 is rotating around the planet. What I meant
What I meant by "moving Halos" was that the Halos are capable of moving around under their own power. However, in the case of Installation 04 (probably not 05, as I don't recall ever seeing a moon around that particular planet) was that it was either built in it's current location or moved there, but that it only maintained the Lagrange point in order to conserve power. It's like a car, you park it but don't leave the motor running. The Forerunner intended for the Halos to last forever, which means that they would need to conserve as much energy as possible, so they would settle into the most stable orbit around a planet (specifically, gas giant) possible and would remain there until such time as they needed to move again. On a side note, someone once suggested that the Lagrange point of Threshold/Basis wasn't in the same orbital range, but rather moved, which would require the Halo to adjust to fit the point. If that were the case, it would support this theory. And yes, I know about the Forerunner ship in High Charity. I would like to point out at this time (before someone else asks) that: 1) We don't know how long that ship powered High Charity 2) It is probably refuelable and 3) Halo is a hell of a lot bigger. I'm sure there'll be an update to this sometime. |
