As I recall something mentioned that the "lost" colony at Tau Ceti IV is "mysteriously abandoned", so my expectation is that, although humanity has already fought and won a war with the Pfhor alongside the S'pht, they generally have no idea that this colony ship that left Sol 400 years earlier and was forgotten all about is responsible for instigating the S'pht rebellion and setting the stage for their victory over the Pfhor. So players of this new game may be slowly discovering what we already know about the plot of the old games, about Durandal calling the Pfhor to Tau Ceti, then searching for Lh'owon, and recalling the S'pht'kr. And also, I suspect, learning new things about the JJARRO who WERE AT TAU CETI.
