At galactic distances, "nearly a millennia" isn't enough time for an ejected star to travel a significant distance - certainly not into "one of the great voids between the spiral arms" as Durandal claims - without it and its associated planet(s) somehow being accelerated to relativistic speeds.

The possibility that it's a star of extra-galactic origin merely passing through the local structure top-to-bottom (or vice versa) on its way to somewhere else simplifies the travel problem, but leaves a lot of other questions unanswered.

I have a feeling this one has to be chalked up to Jjaro shenanigans or else the old trope about sci fi writers having no sense of scale.
