: The "rogue star" and "another abandon world" references
: at the end of M2 were designed to let us know that the story of Durandal
: and the player would continue in some fashion. The Final Screen simply
: puts some closure on certain events in M2 allowing for a completely new
: direction in Marathon 3. That never happened and we never did get our
: hands on the original plot treatment for M3. No doubt it got recycled
: (like the Fungal Zombies) into Halo and by the 7th iteration it was
: unrecognisable as such.
I interpreted the end of M2 to put closure on the conflict with the pfhor and lead into a new story with durandal and the s'pht, probably with some new aliens. But they went and dragged the pfhor back in, even though they made entirely new graphics, because..... ? Well, Doom 64 did that and it turned out great, and so did Marathon 2, but it seems like the only reason bungie went that far was because of the one clown nose comment
