There isn't a plugin in 1.1. The textures are just called from a normal MML file in Scripts. The earliest build that has the textures in a plugin appears to be alpha 5.

Can you try alpha 4 and tell me if that works? If so, then the problem seems most likely to be something to do with how Windows Aleph One handles plugins specifically.

(Also, there's no mechanism I can think of where the plugins contained in different versions of the game would somehow clash with each other anyway.)

Do you mean beta 5 works fine now with the high res textures turned back on? Or you're just saying that the low res textures look fine in beta 5?

I'd really recommend using 1.2. There's so much that has changed, and it'd be a shame to spend so much time doing a tour of duty of an outdated version.
