In Response To: finally i have finished the new book :P (turydragon) I enjoyed reading "The Flood" quite a bit. It's fluffier (as in lighter, not better backrounded) than "FoR", but it does a nice job of making stuff we've already played seem interesting. My only complaint was that during the Master Chief sections (my favourite parts...), the book was written as if the universe was set to somewhere between "easy" and "normal". I'd always imagined that "heroic" was what it would really be like (assuming we all agree that this will actually occur in 500 years!). There is some stuff on "legendary" that is obviously just there to make things tough, most notably the MC's innability to "on-shot-kill" elites and (especially) jackals with the Sniper Rifle with the sniper rifle. I would have like some of the MC's battles to be a little bit tougher... Overall, though, a smashing read. Not serious science fiction... but we all like a good pot-boiler once in a while, right? ...and btw, it's Eric Nylund, whor wrote "FoR" whose going to do the next book, "First Strike". I hope he straightens out the way he characterizes grunts by then! | |
