In Response To: A few halo theories (MC vince) : As for one of the most famous quotes in Halo "The installation was
Tell you what, I am increasingly of the opinion that Halo was built to protect to Forerunner and not to simply study the Flood. Why? Well, like it or not, I'm going to tell you. 1) Look at the architecture of the Halo ring. The patterns suggest an internetwork of power that holds the ring together during a massive energy discharge . The outside of the ring suggests things radiating out. 2) The interior of the ring has an environment. I believe this has a dual purpose. The first is to see how the Flood reacts to different environments, so they'll know how to fight it. I believe the Forerunners were studying the Flood much as anyone would try to learn as much as possible about their enemy. Destroying the galaxy is never a good option, and I believe the Forerunners were cognizant of this. The study of the Flood was for something more devious than an ant farm. The second purpose of this atmosphere was like a haven for the Forerunner to come to if and when the Halos were fired to prevent the spread of the Flood. Guilty Spark says "Their survival as a race was dependent on it." Whose survival? Well, obviously, I don't think it's the Flood. Why? Well, there could be thousands of creatures of sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood throughout the galaxy. I believe it was the Forerunners that needed Halo. They were studying the Flood to find out how to fight them withOUT firing the Halos. Apparently, that didn't work as planned, and the Halos were fired, eliminating those in the galaxy that weren't ON Halo. Which brings me to my next point, that ties in with what I mentioned earlier. If the Halo system was fired previously, as we are led to believe, obviously it didn't destroy Halo or those on it, hence Guilty Spark still being around as well as the installation itself. So, do I think the Forerunner are still around? YES. Somewhere, they survived on one of the ring-worlds. I believe the Flood broke out of containment, possibly on installation 04 (which explains why there are no one but Flood on Halo), and the rings were fired. Some Forerunner survived, as it was their sanctuary, but they locked up what Flood they could and disappeared into hiding, ashamed at what they had to do to the galaxy. This last paragraph is just rampant speculation, but all the rest of the paragraphs make VERY much sense when put into context. |
