In Response To: That Mr Soell... (Rage Reset)

: Does anyone remember how many Weekly Halo Updates there were? I seem to
: recall it was an even 52. With the game slated for a November release, I'd
: say there's not much chance of us getting that many this time around, now
: is there? Well by golly, this skylarking has gone on far too long. There's
: nothing for it now but to write a rather cranky forum post.

: Just what can Mr Soell possibly be doing that is more important than
: providing weekly updates to the adoring, dedicated, waiting-for-Halo
: 2-is-like-having-ants-crawling-on-my-skin masses?

: We aren't sitting out here on our couches eating cake, Mr Soell. The
: knowledge that Halo 2 is currently being built and you are too
: self-centred to share even the vaguest of tidbits about it makes me
: suspect that maybe you were the sort of child who didn't like to share his
: toys as a youngster. Probably hoarded your Easter eggs until everyone else
: had eaten theirs just so you could eat yours in front of them, didnt you?
: Outrageous.

: As for this ridiculous claim that Bungie has stated they dont want any info
: released yet - pah! I scoff at this. Any publicity is good publicity,
: especially in the video game industry *cough* and as any retail or
: customer-facing employee will confirm THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. Trying
: to palm his silence off on Bungie, I'm sure you all agree, merely
: reinforces the I'm-not-sharing-nyahh-nyah-nyahness of it all. Big bad
: Bungie's fault, is it? Of course it is.

: The credits at the end of Halo stated quite clearly that Mr Soell was
: responsible for "Damage and Spin". Now, unless this was
: referring to some kind of in-house pinata party I do believe that it is
: thus his appointed task, his duty, to keep the masses at bay with
: enigmatic, quizzical snippets of satiating information about the
: production of the sequel. Is it unreasonable of us to expect a man to do
: his job? No, I hear you cry, it most certainly isnt. As they say in the
: classics; I rest my case.

: The ball is in your court, Mr Soell.
: You may elect, to the delight of the thronging masses, to hit it back. Or you
: may also elect to not even bother to step on to the court. Be ye fairly
: warned though - the latter will result in more forum posts of the nature
: contained herein.

: And nobody wants that..

Oh, heaven's no.

While I do detect a notable amount of light hearted humor behind the message, I feel it's my divine providence to treat it seriously, as, while you may have been kidding, realize that thousands of trolls are lining up to say "Yah!1 wtf???"

First, I'm going to point out that if you listen to game retailers for anything, your opinion is instantly invalidated. These are the same people that'll take your money and give you a game a year later. To game retailers, the customer is a tool. Ignore their liez.

Next on the agenda, Bungie is known for its secrecy. Their lips remain shut partly because of their sado-masochistic nature (the love to torture fans, and are willing and ready to take the torrent of annoying "U R S3LLOUT WHOREBAGS!!11" e-mails. No e-mail, no matter how carefully created, or how much l33t is applied, will change this behavior. The otehr reason Bungie keeps secrets is because the hypemachine is a very dangerous thing, and even though they have a _great_ game to offer us, they'd rather we come into the game without a set opinion on "This is how the game is going to be."

Last, for the nth time, I'd like to point out that Matt's updates for Halo 1 were a priveledge, not a right. The idea behind the design was to calm a fanbase, nervous about the future of their most anticipated game after the company was acquired. The regular updating was actually unprecedented behavior for Bungie, so any who were around to experience it should feel lucky.

In summary, if Bungie doesn't want to update, Matt will not update. If there's nothing to update about, Matt will not update. Since Halo 2's development is far more linear than Halo's was, Matt doesn't need to update. The fanbase can wait, if need be.

So sit back down on your couch, and eat your damn cake.
