The symbols at the top of the bungie.org main page were designed with a meaning. Once folks discovered that they weren't random, some effort was put into discovering what that meaning was... the end result was access to Arrival. Behind the curtain is some pretty cool early Marathon material Bungie supplied. Decent documentation of the first half of the puzzle (and how it was solved) can be found here. The second half was never made easy, unfortunately. :( To figure out what was done (and what it all means), you actually have to read the forum posts. Someday... :) Mike Watson devised the puzzle. I coded it. Matt Soell supplied the prize material. And well over 400 people contributed to the solving of it. :)
