In Response To: Can't Ride an open Banshee to the Bottom (oldmano'theC) : "getting a 'shee out of the hands of the elites is looking more & : more like the only way down alive, : this is looking more and more grim. i had the luck (total and absolute : serendipty, even) to have an OPEN 'shee available to play with at the very : start of Halo level. one of the two that strafe you decided to run full : tilt into the rock wall in an attempt to ram me, and to my surprise, that : killed AND ejected the pilot. never seen that before, but i'm always open : to new experiences. : however, you CANNOT get in & fly the 'shee, even though its hatch is open : (and SO inviting!). but i was able to melee it downriver to the brink of : the waterfall for an attempt to ride it down to the bottom. i've done this : two ways -- with the 'shee upright & with it inverted. it doesn't : work, dagnabit! : staying on the 'shee as it's about to go over is tough, but can be done. but : as it falls it falls FASTER than you, so it gets away, even if you're : right on top of it as it goes over. then you go into freefall and die. : oddly enough, after you die, you fall faster than the 'shee, and can : overtake it on the way down. so much for realisitic Halo physics -- : Galileo would gag. : so ejecting a pilot is out -- you can't get in his place. can't seem to ride : the dang thing down, either. however, a frozen 'shee still has power, and : does not freefall or tumble. i watched one go over the brink near the : lightbridge & followed it down with the sniperscope. it remained : upright at all times and fell relatively slowly, not freefalling. maybe, : just maybe... The banshee falls before you therefore has acceleration before you start accelerating, by the time the top has passed the cliff edge its falling at a reasonable pace and willo continue accelerating, so will always be faster than you even if you fall at exactly the time to "land" on the top. It will move away from you as it has been falling longer. Then when you die, you will have been falling long enough for air resistance to work more on the Banshee, and it will fall slower than you when it has reached equilibrium in forces. My theory.
